Rochford Wines’ New Single Vineyard Release

As the sun sets behind the rolling hills of the Yarra Valley, we at Rochford Wines are delighted to introduce our latest single vineyard releases. These wines are more than just bottles on a shelf; they embody our journey, dedication, and the unique character of the Yarra Valley that we proudly call home.

Each sip reflects the land, the hands that nurtured it, and the passion that drives us to create something truly exceptional.

We’re privileged to have vineyards in various pockets of the Yarra and Upper Yarra Valley, each contributing its own distinct terroir. Explore the Rochford Wines Map to discover where each wine has been cultivated.

    The Heart of Our Vineyards

Our single vineyard wines offer a deep dive into the diverse micro-climates of the Yarra Valley, capturing the essence of each specific place and moment in time. From careful vineyard cultivation to the artistry in our winery, every step is taken with a level of care that comes from a true love for what we do.

    The Stories Behind the Wines

This year, we’re celebrating the distinct personalities of our 2021 and 2022 vintages. The 2021 vintage, with its stable weather and perfect growing conditions, resulted in wines of exceptional quality—particularly our Chardonnays. The 2022 vintage, though more challenging, produced wines of incredible structure and depth, especially our Pinot Noirs. Each wine tells the story of its season, from the vine to your glass.

Rochford Single Vineyard ‘Dans les Bois’ Chardonnay 2021

Tasting notes: This Upper Yarra Chardonnay offers scents of white peach, apple pie pastry, cinnamon spice, and orange blossom florals with subtle hints of lit candles. The palate is rich with stone fruit, lemon curd, croissant, juicy pear, and savory lees influence. It finishes with a refreshing squeeze of limey acidity.

    Vineyard: Yarra Junction.

Rochford Single Vineyard ‘Dans les Bois’ Pinot Noir 2021

Tasting notes: This Pinot Noir reveals the subtleties of the 2021 vintage, with intriguing latent power. Aromas of wild strawberries, alpine herbs, forest spices, violets, and roses are complemented by a distinctive mineral ‘iron’ note. The palate offers a spread of red berry fruits (boysenberry and red cherries) with old vine fruit tannins. It remains fresh while showing complexity and structure, promising good cellaring potential.

    Vineyard: Yarra Junction.

    Single Vineyard Isabella’s Chardonnay 2021

Tasting notes: Aromas of river pebble, chamomile, lemon balm, ripe grapefruit skin, and beeswax candle. On the palate, enjoy the density of ripe citrus with white peach, oatmeal, and lively acidity. The phenolic structure adds to the Chardonnay’s complexity.

    Vineyard: Briarty Road.

Single Vineyard Isabella’s Pinot Noir 2022 (Gold, 97 points Halliday 2025)

Tasting notes: Aromas of red fruits, cranberry, sweet spices, and cola notes. The palate is rich with darker red fruits such as raspberry and stewed red plum, balanced by acidity. The finish is lengthy and mouth-watering, with sappy fruit tannins and subtle wood notes adding to the wine’s complexity.

    Vineyard: Rochford Winery Vineyard.

Single Vineyard Isabella’s Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Tasting notes: Scents of red cherries, roses, fresh leather, dried herbs (sage and thyme), cigar box, and cassis. The palate features a mix of red and dark fruits, including red cherry and red plums, with notes of cacao and various spices. The plush tannins allow the lively fruits to linger, indicating a bright future for this wine.

    Vineyard: Briarty Road.

    Single Vineyard ‘Premier’ Chardonnay 2021

Tasting notes: This Chardonnay speaks clearly of its Upper Yarra origin, with notes of white florals, citrus blossoms, nougat, and a hint of struck match. On the palate, it’s exotic, with flavors of Tahitian limes, ripe pear, wet stone, cinnamon spices, and a saline acid profile. The wine has a generous palate and finishes with a fresh sparkle.

    Vineyard: Woori Yallock.

Single Vineyard ‘Premier’ Pinot Noir 2021

Tasting notes: This Pinot shows the subtleties of the 2021 vintage yet remains intriguing in its latent power. Aromas of wild strawberries, alpine herbs, forest spices, violets, and roses are complemented by a distinctive mineral ‘iron’ note. The palate features red berry fruits (boysenberry and red cherries) with old vine fruit tannins, remaining fresh while showing nice complexity and structure.

    Vineyard: Rochford Winery Vineyard.

A Word from Our Chief Winemaker, Kaspar Hermann

This year’s release is especially close to our hearts. The 2021 and 2022 vintages reflect our vineyards and the care we put into them. The 2021 vintage yielded wines of great balance, particularly the Chardonnay, while the 2022 vintage, though smaller in yield, produced incredibly structured and concentrated wines, especially the Pinot Noir.

  • From Next Door Neighbours to Newlyweds: Josh & Juliana’s Love Journey & Advice to Planning the Dream Winery Wedding

From Next Door Neighbours to Newlyweds: Josh & Juliana’s Love Journey & Advice to Planning the Dream Winery Wedding

On March 28th, 2024, Josh and Juliana’s wedding unfolded in the heart of the Yarra Valley among the Autumn hues and picturesque winery landscapes at Rochford Wines, transforming their day into an ever so special celebration.

From neighbours to newlyweds, their journey from being next door neighbours for an entire year before introducing themselves, to then fast forwarding years down the track and walking down the aisle, saying “I do” is a heartwarming tale of how the stars beautifully aligned to shape their love story.

With a fun filled gathering of 80 of their closest friends and family, Josh and Juliana’s wedding day had everything – lively entertainment, a breathtaking sunset, unique personal touches, traditional dances, and many heartfelt moments – all perfectly mirroring their journey together under the sunny skies and the natural beauty of our beloved Yarra Valley Winery Venue.

The ceremony took place on the sunlit terrace with a stunning vineyard backdrop, where the sunny afternoon skies filled the air with anticipation and joy, creating the ultimate setting for the special occasion. As dusk unfolded, the newlyweds were treated to one of the most spectacular sunsets the Yarra Valley has displayed, a breathtaking glow that made their wedding photos absolutely pop.

Their reception, held in Isabella’s Restaurant, was an unforgettable night buzzing with amazing tunes, happy faces, and a full dance floor. From their first dance under the glow of the fairy lights, to dessert from Bianco Latte’s mouth watering gelato cart (a huge hit among guests), the bride’s iconic wedding cake smash, to the fun-filled dances that blended Juliana’s Italian heritage with Josh’s Australian roots – all coming together to create a truly unforgettable night.

We had the pleasure of catching up with Juliana, who shared the journey of their love story, the intricacies of planning their wedding, and the unforgettable experiences of their special day. Here’s what she had to share:

Behind the scenes: Josh & Juliana’s wedding reflections & recommendations

R: Can you share a snapshot of your love story… How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of each other? Did you know you had found ‘the one’?

J: I was the “girl next door” – Josh and I met when I moved into the unit next to his and we lived side-by-side for a whole year before ever really speaking. Then we became friendly neighbours, each too nervous to really make a move for a few months but eventually we started dating and fell in love.

Things always felt easy with Josh, everything just clicked from Day 1 and I just never doubted being with him or our future together. I think that’s how I knew he was the one, it just felt right.

R: Tell us your proposal story! How, when, where did it happen, how were you each feeling before, during and after? Was it expected or a total surprise?

J: Josh proposed in the fairy light tunnel at Lightscape, on our third anniversary in 2022. The planning and effort he went to was a beautiful surprise but he had asked me to go ring shopping earlier that year, so I had a feeling it was going to happen!

R: What led you to choose the Yarra Valley for your wedding destination? Was it the winery, country landscapes, outdoors vibes that you had your heart set on? Anything of special meaning to you?
    J:
We always knew a city wedding wasn’t for us and the Yarra Valley is one of our favourite day-trip destinations that we’d visited dozens of times as a couple. We love the freshness, openness and beautiful landscapes and knew straight away that we wanted to have our wedding in the area.

R: What made Rochford Wines stand out as your dream wedding venue amongst the many options in the Yarra Valley area? How did our venue complement the vision you had for your special day?

J: The very first stand out feature about Rochford was the architecture of the venue itself. I was in love with the high ceiling and floor-to-ceiling windows of Isabella’s restaurant and I dreamed of having our bridal portraits in front of the iconic pointed brick wall. Alongside the venue itself, the grounds are immaculate and the scenery is stunning!

Rochford also offered the most flexibility with their packages, which honestly sealed the deal for Josh and I. Being so accommodating with our particular requests not only let us plan our dream wedding, but we were able to do so within our budget.

R: What was something surprising you found during your wedding planning journey? Was organising your big day easy breezy or more difficult than you thought it would be?

J: I always knew wedding planning would be stressful. There’s so much pressure to have the “perfect” day, please your family, stay within a budget, be true to yourselves, look your best and then on top of that, people keep telling you not to stress!

It was definitely hard, stressful and I invested hours and hours into research and planning – but it was 100% worth it! For me, the more organised I was in the lead up, the happier and calmer I knew I would be on the day itself.

Throughout the planning, I was most surprised by the details that my husband had a strong stance on; our bridal party colour theme, reception tablescapes and favours are just a few examples. Ladies – don’t exclude your fiancé from decision- making!

R: How did you infuse personal touches that were meaningful to you both into your wedding to make the day uniquely yours?

J: In so many ways, our wedding was uniquely us! From the styling to our music choices and dancing. Food was a big part, as we chose dishes that we personally loved rather than choosing based on what we thought our guests would like.

We both love ice cream and it’s our favourite dessert so we booked a gelato cart from Bianco Latte. Not only was this a huge hit with our guests but it really encapsulated us as a couple, on our menu.

The same sentiment applied to our favours. Josh always buys me scented candles instead of flowers so we had personalised candle tins, from a local Yarra Valley supplier, made in “his” and “hers” scents for our guests.

R: Reflecting on your wedding day, what were the most memorable moments? The funniest, the most emotional? Or is it too hard to pick?

J: Some of the most memorable moments are such random ones or really fleeting interactions. I remember my Maid Of Honour shocking everyone in her speech with hilarious messages I’d sent her about Josh when we first started dating. I remember high-fiving Josh after our first dance that we’d been practising for months.

One of my more special memories was locking eyes with Josh for the first time as I walked down the aisle. There’s such a crazy flurry of emotions right before this moment but I remember feeling so happy, relieved and excited when I finally saw him.

R: What advice would you share with engaged couples to truly make the most of their wedding day? Things like getting ready, getting photos taken, entertainment and venue choice, especially in a picturesque setting like the Yarra Valley?

J: It’s very easy to get caught up in Pinterest boards and the opinions of others when planning your wedding. My best advice is to try and stay as true to your vision as possible and don’t let others – family, friends or vendors – talk you into anything you don’t want. Remember that you know your vision better than anyone else, so don’t second guess yourself and trust your gut!

Specifically for your photographer, send a handful of inspo photos (even better if they’re from past couples at your venue). You have such limited time post- ceremony and if you have sunset photos, so it helps to be prepared with these locations ahead of time.

R: If you could only choose between one of the following, which ones would you both pick?

    A. The perfect weather on your wedding day

    B. The perfect weather on your honeymoon

    C. An unlimited budget to spend and have the most extravagant wedding.

    D. $20,000 towards your honeymoon

J: Having been so incredibly lucky to have perfect weather on our wedding day and the most gorgeous sunset, I would say option A! Weather is such an unpredictable factor for Melbourne couples so to guarantee the perfect temperature would be very handy. But to drop 20K on a luxury honeymoon, that’s also very tempting!

R: Lastly, how was yours and your guests’ experience with us at Rochford wines?

J: Nicola and the team at Rochford Wines helped us create our dream wedding and if I could relive our day a hundred times over, I would.

The ceremony and reception spaces were set up beautifully and Rochford’s staff were so kind, warm and professional not only to Josh and I, but our guests too. This was particularly notable for our disabled guests, whose needs were accommodated for with ease.

From the moment Josh and I arrived at Rochford to the moment we left, we were made to feel so special and looked-after. The feedback we’ve had from our guests and vendors has been wonderful, so it’s absolutely heartwarming to know that others enjoyed our wedding as much as we did.

Josh and Juliana’s wedding at Rochford Wines was the perfect setting for their special day, from their heartfelt ceremony, to the fun filled reception with its unique touches like the gelato cart and scented keepsakes, every element was thoughtfully curated to reflect their personal story.

For those dreaming of a perfect winery wedding in the iconic Yarra Valley, let Rochford Wines be the canvas for your big day. With our stunning vineyard views and experienced team of dedicated wedding coordinators, we promise to make your celebration as memorable as Josh and Juliana’s.

  • Isabella & Deepinder’s Intimate Yarra Valley Wedding

Isabella & Deepinder’s Intimate Yarra Valley Wedding

On a gorgeous Autumn’s day on the 4th of May 2024, Isabella and Deepinder made their love official and became husband and wife at their Yarra Valley Wedding at Rochford Wines. This small, intimate celebration with 45 guests was a beautiful blend of Italian and Indian cultures, set against the picturesque backdrop of our winery.
From the heartfelt ceremony where they exchanged vows in front of their loved ones in our cosy conservatory, to their lively reception at Isabella’s Restaurant, their wedding day was filled with joy, cultural celebrations, heartfelt moments and of course, a whole lot of love!

The newlyweds were blessed with a dreamy pink sunset sky that peeked through the wispy clouds during their wedding photoshoot amongst our picturesque vineyards, providing a stunning backdrop – truly capturing the essence of their special day.

The reception space was beautifully decorated with soft pink and white floral arrangements, white and wooden décor including oak wine barrels and romantic candles. The showstoppers in the venue were the elegant champagne tower and their stunning three-tier wedding cake.

Everyone sat and listened to the beautifully written speeches by various family members evoking tears of happiness and laughter throughout the room. Isabella & Dee shared their first dance as husband and wife under the warm glow of the restaurant’s lighting, then excitedly poured bottles of champagne into the tower together, ready to get the party started for the night!

The evening continued with everyone enjoying the dance floor, with Deepinder and his father performing their traditional Indian father-son dance, along with other family members who delighted the couple with traditional dances. Guests had fun taking turns getting their photos with the new Mr. and Mrs. Singh sunglasses, and many other memorable moments, making for an unforgettable celebration!

We recently sat down with our newly wedded couple, asking them to share their wedding journey, personal experiences and advice for future couples.

Getting to know Isabella & Deepinder: Their wedding planning journey & their love story

Rochford: Can you share a snapshot of your love story… How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of each other? Did you know you had found ‘the one’?
I: “We met on Hinge in 2021 and we both fell in love instantly. We had our first date at Thirty Eight Chairs in South Yarra. He was so nervous. I was just happy to be with him.”

Rochford: Tell us your proposal story! How, when, where did it happen, how were you each feeling before, during and after? Was it expected or a total surprise?
I: “He proposed to me on our 2 year anniversary in Queensland. I knew it was coming because he was super nervous just like our first date. I was happy because it was finally happening. He set up a cute picnic on the beach, hired a photographer, and we went to Grill’d for dinner afterward.”

Rochford: What led you to choose the Yarra Valley for your wedding destination? Was it the winery, country landscapes, outdoors vibes that you had your heart set on?
I & D: “The Yarra Valley was our top choice because of the beautiful views and landscapes. We knew Rochford was the one straight away much like our first meeting again!”

Rochford: What made Rochford Wines stand out as your dream wedding venue amongst the many options in the Yarra Valley area? How did our venue complement the vision you had for your special day?
I & D: “Rochford stood out to us because of the affordability and the beautiful vineyards. They also allowed a lot of our own ideas which a lot of other places had shut down, so it made it easy to replicate our vision.”

Rochford: What was something surprising you found during your wedding planning journey? Was organising your big day easy breezy or more difficult than you thought it would be?
I: “Planning was difficult for me as a type A bride. I wanted everything to be perfect. I would do it all over again, for someone else of course, just to see the smile on their face like I had.”

Rochford: How did you infuse personal touches that were meaningful to you both into your wedding to make the day uniquely yours?
I & D: “We had a table with a photo of our deceased parents as well as a seat saved for them in the ceremony. Our script and vows for the ceremony were personalised to us as well. We had multiple family members do speeches which were very cute.”

Rochford: Reflecting on your wedding day, what were the most memorable moments? The funniest, the most emotional? Or is it too hard to pick?
I: “A favourite moment would definitely be too hard to pick. The whole night was amazing. One of my favourites though was spinning around in my fluffy dress to “Spinning Around” by Kylie Minogue and seeing Dee when I walked into the conservatory for the first time.”

Rochford: What advice would you share with engaged couples to truly make the most of their wedding planning journey and wedding day?
I & D: “Enjoy the engagement stage as much as possible. It will never come around again. Also enjoy the planning stage. Make the most of your time as an engaged couple, go looking at venues, take your time because the wedding day goes by so quickly.”

Rochford: If you could only choose between one of the following, which ones would you both pick?
    A. The perfect weather on your wedding day
    B. The perfect weather on your honeymoon
    C. An unlimited budget to spend and have the most extravagant wedding.
    D. $20,000 towards your honeymoon
I & D: $20,000 towards my honeymoon. Rain is supposed to be good luck on your wedding day!

Rochford: Lastly, how was yours and your guests’ experience with us at Rochford Wines?
I & D: “Everyone had a fantastic time! Thank you Rochford for being so accommodating and bringing our vision to life! We would recommend it to anyone and we will definitely be back for dinner sometime.”

We are honoured to have been part of Isabella & Dee’s journey and look forward to helping many more couples create their perfect day in our stunning winery setting!
